Wiveliscombe’s film society, Cinema Obscura will be showing the critically acclaimed Romanian film 4 Months….3 Weeks…2 Days
( cert 15) this coming Sunday 19th October.
Winner of the Palme d’Or in Cannes 2007, but excluded from consideration for an Oscar because of its subject matter. This is the story of an illegal abortion in 1980’s Romania. The unflinching gaze of the director Christian Mungiu reveals the subject in all its complexity, yet he demonstrates great sympathy towards the women at its difficult heart.
During the final days of communism in Romania, two college roommates Otilia and Gabita are busy preparing for a night away. But rather than planning for a holiday, they are making arrangements for Gabita's illegal abortion and unwittingly, both find themselves burrowing deep down a rabbit hole of unexpected revelations. With events unfolding over the course of a single day, 4 Months is a masterwork of modern filmmaking, by parts poignant and shocking - warning the film does contain some disturbing scenes
4 Months is a modern film classic that will stay with you long after you've watched it. It’s also another fine example of world cinema at it’s gripping best - which Cinema Obscura now in it’s 9th season of contemporary world cinema has excelled at demonstrating.
Cinema Obscura will screening 4 Months….3 Weeks…2 Days at the New Hall - Wiveliscombe Primary School- this coming Sunday, doors will open from 7pm with the film commencing at 7.30pm.
Cinema Obscura membership is £26.50 (couples £44 ) with guest entry for this film is £5.
