Founded by accident just over five years ago, the Milverton Curmudgeons are a disparate (and sometimes desperate) group of like-minded ‘Grumpy Old Men’ who meet weekly for a meal and a pint at a local hostelry, where we put the world to rights; have a lot of banter - and a jolly good moan. The group comprises men of a certain age with exceptionally good looks and a wide- range of experience in business and commerce. Age is not a consideration for membership of the group but a questioning, even rebellious state of mind is essential.

Dear Villagers                            January 2011

Following our successful first village Firework Night we would like to let you all know, well in advance, that the Milverton Curmudgeons are organising a further three village events over the Easter and May
holidays as further fundraising events for Help for Heroes and 40 Commando and local groups.

Saturday 23 April, St. George’s Day Banquet
To be held in the Victoria Rooms, this year’s celebration of St George’s Day will comprise of a sumptuous four course banquet and an evening of entertainment.  Some of you will remember the last banquet
held in 2006 which was a sell out.  Book early to avoid disappointment!

Sunday 24 April, Screening of Kenneth Branagh's Henry V
The Film Club have kindly agreed to support our fundraising efforts by putting on a special screening of this classic acclaimed adaptation of Shakespeare’s work.

May Day Bank Holiday, Monday 2 May, Family Sheep Racing and Hog Roast
To be held in Hendy's Field after the Street Fair from 2.30 p.m, an afternoon of family fun with sheep racing, Hog Roast and Licensed Bar plus other family entertainments.  A first for Milverton, this is not to be
missed!

Further details will be published closer to the time, so put these dates in your diaries, tell your friends and come along to have a great time and support our charity fundraising.

To all Milvertonians

A big thank you to all those who braved the elements and joined us at our first Firework Extravaganza held at the Cricket Club on 5th November. Although the weather conspired to reduce the expected numbers we were very pleased with the turnout and with your kind generosity have raised in excess of £680 which will go to Help for Heroes and the 40 Commando Benevolent Fund.

A special thanks to all those who helped on the day with setting up and building the bonfire, at the event itself and to Emma & Russell at the Milverton Stores for kindly selling advanced tickets and flier distribution.

We would also thank those villagers who watched the Firework display away from the ground and who generously made donations. There is still the opportunity for others who enjoyed the spectacle to make donations either at the Club Bar or c/o The Old Quaker House, North Street.

By popular demand we do hope to make this an annual event so put Saturday 5th November 2011 in your diaries and come along to an even better event next year.

Thank you all again for your support.

From all the Milverton Curmudgeons.

This Photograph was taken by Tom Borg, who as a member of the Wellington Camera Club, was one of several amateur photographers who came along to capture images on the evening. This image called November Fun was a prizewinner at a recent club competition.
