Victoria Rooms Reading Room, Milverton.

Come and join us in taking action on climate change.

Milverton’s Carbon Footprint

The results are in!

·       9188kg per person

·       9400kg national average

·       Food and transport biggest contributors

600 households individually called upon 3 times in 10 days!  Each household sent a personalised report on their carbon footprint and ways to reduce it by either e-mail or post. Many thanks to Nikki Lewis and her students at Richard Huish College, Ecos Trust, Milverton Parish Council and the Milverton Climate Challenge volunteers who made it all possible. To reduce Milverton’s food print help us establish a Milverton Producers’ Saturday Stall in the village where gardeners, allotment holders and local growers can sell their surplus produce to local residents.  Milverton food for Milverton people – you can’t get more local than that!  Interested? Milverton Climate Challenge Featured In Inspiring Film

An inspiring 3 minute film on what Milverton Climate Challenge and Milverton Primary School are doing about climate change has been produced by Somerset County Council’s Rising to the Challenge Team.  The film will be shown at their roadshow events, to primary school and will also be featured on their website.  We hope to show the film at our meeting on 12 September.

Milverton Community Renewable Energy Consultation

CAFÉ (Community Action on Energy) are working with us on what sources of renewable energy are possible for Milverton.  We are looking for a beacon community project to kick-start the initiative.  If you are responsible for a community building in Milverton that could do with an energy saving makeover than please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . If you are interested in helping make renewable energy a reality for Milverton than please get in touch, we are currently working through a list of preliminary considerations before CAFÉ comes down to Milverton to give us a free one and a half day consultation.

Cool Earth

Do something now to protect our planet go to COOL EARTH and buy ½ and acre of rainforest.  Rainforests are made of living carbon - more than 260 tonnes are locked away in each acre.  Destroying them releases more climate warming CO2 each year than the entire USA.  Cool Earth is a charity that protects endangered rainforest. This combats global warming, protects ecosystems and provides sustainable jobs for local people.

The Convenient Solution

If you can only do one thing this month, please watch Green peace’s new film, The Convenient Solution, which details why decentralised energy and energy efficiency are better than nuclear power for helping us tackle climate change:
