Worrying times again for the village as Taunton Deane's unpopular planning department sides with Bach Homes of Swindon and grants a 'Certificate of Lawfulness' to the proposed site to the east of Creedwell Orchard. This 'permission to build' expired around 1981 and nothing more was heard until recent months when Bach Homes declared that sufficient work had begun on the land to warrant the permission 'live'.
There are many problems surrounding this site including initial site access and the subsequent heavy machinery rumbling through the village to the noise of a large building site during the day (and evenings in the summer). Permanent access for the homes will be a headache as there is no infrastructure in place to support this. The village water and sewerage facilities are apparantly over-stretched now, which is unsurprising seeing as they have been in place since Victorian times!
Other knock on effects from the new estate are; overcrowded school and playgroup, leading too much larger mixed age classes, which so far Milverton School has managed to avoid, not to mention a significant increase in traffic and parking problems.
